About the Event
This is a free, family-friendly workshop with lantern options for all skill levels; choose between a glass jar lantern, a milk carton lantern, or a star lantern made with bamboo. All materials are supplied but you are welcome to bring patterned tissue paper or pressed flowers or dried leaves if you'd like to include something special from home in your lantern.
One of the facilitators of the workshop is Sioux Browning, local lantern enthusiast. Sioux has made lanterns for events in Vancouver, Nelson, and Manning Park.
Once your lantern is made, you are invited participate in Cranbrook's very first lantern parade. The parade is part of Ed Fest, a two-day celebration of arts and music inspired by the adventurous elephant Cranbrook Ed, who broke free from a circus train in 1926 and explored the hills around town for more than a month. Lantern-makers are welcome to join the parade at Rotary Park on the evening of Friday, September 6th.
