Participants can expect to create unique abstract works by layering colour using pre-cut and random blocks to build multi-coloured, multi-layered prints over the course of the workshop. Students will be instructed on the use of relief printing inks & tools including the printing press and hand-pulling techniques. Using these techniques we will build abstract and pattern-based prints layering colours and shapes to create unique prints in the vein of the Natural Geometry show, recently exhibited by the instructor.
Michael Hepher is an interdisciplinary artist working as a letterpress printer, wood engraver, oil painter, and illustrator. His work seeks to explore an alternate line of sight from common views—showing a bold and playful version of our surroundings. Through the use of strong shapes, rich colour, and graphic line work, he parses internal and external landscapes into a unique iconography of community and nature. His work strives to show…
