Spend five weeks exploring clay through handbuilding and creating pieces with a more sculptural focus. We’ll work with slabs, coils, pinching, and other handbuilding techniques to build and shape clay while exploring form, texture, and surface. Rather than focusing on traditional functional pottery, this class is about experimenting with different shapes and ideas and seeing where the clay takes you. Participants will have time to develop their own projects and try out techniques along the way. No previous handbuilding experience is required, and there will be lots of room to experiment and make the projects your own.
Colleen Routley is a Cranbrook-based potter with a rich artistic background spanning multiple mediums. Initially focusing on painting, she has dedicated the past 25 years to pottery, where she finds joy in the experimental nature and delightful surprises…
